Bruce L. Barnes

Dr. Bruce L. Barnes graduated from veterinary school at Kansas State University in the year 2000. He has over 29 years of experience in the field. He began his career working in Rancho Bernardo at the same veterinary practice he volunteered at prior to attending veterinary school. During his senior year in veterinary school, he received three prestigious animal medicine awards including the Pharmacia Upjohn Small Animal Medicine Award, Kansas State University Pet Trust Scholar and the Small Animal Emergency & Critical Care Award.
Dr. Barnes is an active member in the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). He attends numerous conferences and continuing education seminars annually to stay on top of the latest medical and surgical techniques in the field of veterinary medicine. He prides himself on being one of the most well-rounded veterinarians in the greater San Diego area. His special interests include internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, advanced soft tissue surgery, ultrasound, dentistry, and preventative medicine. He opened 4 Paws Animal Hospital in 2008 with the goal of providing high quality medicine and surgery serving 4S Ranch, Del Sur, Rancho Bernardo and surrounding communities.
In 2018, his hospital was a finalist in North America in the Pet Plan Hospital of the Year Award. In his free time when he is not practicing veterinary medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family, his beautiful daughter Alexis, barbequing, drawing and painting. He also enjoys working on various DIY projects around his house.
