Our animal hospital offers prosthodontics as part of our extensive veterinary dentistry services. Prosthodontics is a specialty in dentistry that deals with restoration of fractured or worn teeth. Dogs are notorious for chewing on substances that can cause excessive tooth wear--such as cage bars, wood, rocks, balls, hard chew toys, etc. Over time, this excessive tooth wear can cause a tooth to become more prone to fracture and/or painful root exposure.

Teeth that are worn can be restored with crown therapy or composite restorations. Titanium silver is the most common material used for crown therapy due to its strength and durability. Crowns are used to completely cap or partially cover a worn tooth to protect the tooth from fracturing. Previously fractured teeth may also benefit from crowns to make them stronger and eliminate the need for removal. Ask our veterinarian if you think prosthodontics may be right for your pet.
