Current COVID 19 Protocols

With the most current updates on COVID-19, VCA Blum Animal Hospital is continuing to lead and take our social responsibility very seriously. At this time, we are continuing to limit hospital access to staff only. We know this poses challenges for our clients, as this is difficult for all of us, but we want to ensure we can continue operations and care for as many pets that need our help. This means limiting our team members and clients to any potential exposures to COVID-19.

To minimize the health risk to our staff, please let us know prior to your appointment if your dog or cat has been exposed to a household or human positive for COVID-19.  One of our team will then discuss with you strategies to help your pet while keeping everyone’s health in mind.

Protocol for Appointments:

Please note that we have an amended process for appointments until further notice. When you arrive at our hospital, please remain in your vehicle with your pet and call our main line at 773-327-4446 or the phone number posted outside. When we are ready to see your pet, we will collect your pet at our front door and communicate with you via phone during the appointment. Please be prepared to walk your leashed dog or properly secured cat to the front door. Due to safety reasons, our staff cannot collect your pet from your vehicle. Thank you in advance for your understanding. After your appointment our front desk team will call you to go over the invoice, collect payment via credit card and meet you at the door with your pet.

Protocol for Medication/Food Pick Ups:

If you are picking up a medication or a food refill, please call us ahead of time to place your order and make payment. This will expedite your pickup process. When you arrive to pick up your items please call us at 773-327-4446 and we will meet you at the front door with your order.

How we are protecting you and your family:

When a staff member meets you at the front door, they will be wearing a face mask and gloves before collecting your pet. These are based on the CDC guidelines for protection of our clients and our team members. Our veterinary care team thoroughly disinfects each exam room between each appointment and also follows all CDC guidelines for appropriate hygiene and social distancing within our hospital.  However, as a Fear Free Certified Hospital, we will continue to utilize all possible strategies to minimize fear, anxiety and stress within our patients while in the hospital through high reward treats, pheromones and low stress handling. Please let us know if you have any questions specifically about this process.

Thank you for your understanding at this incredibly challenging time. You can also call us at 773-327-4446 with a question and one of our staff will help as much as we can. We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work to keep your pet’s health our top priority and excellent service our goal.
