Orthopedic Surgery

Stifle (Knee) Surgery

Patellar Luxation Correction:

The patella or “kneecap” in some breeds of dogs will luxate and pop out of its socket. This is either a developmental disease or possibly a sequela of advanced stifle disease. Regardless, medial patellar luxation can be surgically corrected to help a pet with ambulation and lameness.

Cranial Cruciate Ligament Rupture Repair:

The cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) in the dog is the most common site for damage and a cause of lameness. It can also occur in cats. Depending on the weight of your pet and the advanced state of the disease, we are fully equipped to handle cases for resolution of lameness in your pet. We perform either a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) or an extra-capsular repair, depending on your pets’ weight. Typical recovery time is about 9-10 weeks and 6 weeks respectively. We utilize our therapeutic laser to help speed the healing process of your pet’s surgery making your pet return to function quicker.

Arthroscopic Joint Surgery:

We are equipped and enabled to offer you and your pet state of the art, minimally invasive joint surgery, similar to what humans would have performed on their joints. Using tiny cameras and lights, we can examine the inside of shoulder joints, knees, elbows and hips for pathologic disease. Likewise, we can help cure lameness and damage by correcting problems in these joints using small ports. Minimally invasive surgery decreases healing time and returns your pet to function in less time than more invasive techniques. We can utilize arthroscopic surgery for the following conditions:

  • Osteochondrosis of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and hock
  • Fractured medial coronoid process of the elbow
  • Ununited anconeal process disease
  • Biceps tendon release
  • Ruptured cranial cruciate ligament examination
  • Meniscus damage and injury

Schedule an appointmentĀ for a consultation with our orthopedics doctor to see if the cause of your pets’ lameness could be corrected using the most advanced techniques available today. Remember, less damage means less rehabilitation time and quicker recovery to normal!

Fracture Fixation:

Our orthopedic doctor is skilled in handling fractures of many bones and regions of the body. From simple bone plating techniques to pins and tension wires, depending on the fracture and place in the body, our doctors can help alleviate and correct injuries from traumatic bone damage.
