Ken Theus, Staff Veterinarian

Dr. Ken Theus joined our practice at the beginning of August 2014. He was born and raised in Northeast Louisiana, and attended both Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine in Manhattan, Kansas as well as Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia for his veterinary training. In addition to providing wellness care for his patients, Dr. Theus has a particular interest in veterinary sports medicine – which coincides with his work outside the clinic as a trainer and judge for herding dog trials. Along with working with herding dogs, he also enjoys training for competitions in agility, flyball, tracking, splash dog and disc dog events. Dr. Theus’ passion for caring for animals extends far beyond the walls of our hospital. Before joining our team, he spent over three years working with the Best Friends Animal Society – the world’s largest animal welfare program. Through his work with Best Friends Society, Dr. Theus has visited a number of exotic locations around the globe, including Russia, Bora Bora, The Galapagos Islands, China, Peru, Ecuador, Easter Island and Lebanon – where he aided in airlifting pets from local war-torn shelters. After leaving the Best Friends Society, he then spent six years working for the Louisiana Humane Society where he directed operations during Hurricane Katrina. In addition he has worked with Therapy Dogs International, volunteering his time as a handler. Dr. Theus’ own pets include a Red-Lored Amazon Parrot named Max who was rescued after Hurricane Katrina and four working border collies named Gin, Mac, Joey and Tweed.
