Jennifer Ma, Staff Veterinarian

As a young child, Dr. Ma remembers being so fascinated by animal rescue shows and loving to see the medical team nurse injured or sick animals back to health. Her family also had many different pets of their own from rabbits, hamsters and dogs to fish and turtles. As Dr. Ma learned first-hand how to take care of them, she realized what an incredible and special bond we can have with animals. By the age of 9, Dr. Ma already knew she wanted to become a veterinarian to help sick animals every single day and still can't believe she is living that dream to this day! After receiving a Bachelor's degree in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior from UC Davis, Dr. Ma moved briefly out of state to complete her veterinary degree at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.

Dr. Ma joined a private practice for a few years then joined as a VCA relief vet in 2016. Dr. Ma became a full time Associate DVM with Madera Pet Hospital in 2018.

Dr. Ma has one dog, Nala (she thinks her actual species is a snuggle-bear!). In her free time, Dr. Ma enjoys running 10 and 15k races, traveling, hiking, and spending time with her husband, Ted, and fur-baby, Nala. She also has a love of scrap-booking and letting her creativity soar with arts and crafts projects. Dr. Ma is also a member of the Berkeley Toastmasters group.

Dr. Ma enjoys building relationships with her patients and their families and being able to help their furry friends feel better when they are sick. It is rewarding for her to see the unbreakable bond that exists between humans and animals. Dr. Ma particularly enjoys soft tissue surgery, dentistry, preventive and geriatric care.
