VCA New Hartford Animal Hospital first opened its doors in 1978 under the direction of Dr. Frank Mondi, a graduate of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. The hospital was built on a foundation of integrity, honesty and compassion where we continue to believe in higher standards for healthier pets. Our promise is to partner with you and your pet to provide high quality veterinary care for a happy and healthy life.
Since 1993, VCA New Hartford has been proudly accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). AAHA was established in 1933 and is well known among veterinarians and pet owners for its standards for hospitals and pet health care. Less than 15% of veterinary hospitals in North America voluntarily participate in the AAHA hospital evaluation program and are accredited. Consultants regularly visit these hospitals to ensure compliance with over 900 AAHA standards for services and facilities.
As part of VCA New Hartford’s continued commitment to the gold standard of veterinary care, in 2020 we became a Fear Free Certified Practice. The Fear Free Veterinary Practice Certification represents a dedication to the highest standard of care and quality for all patients. As a Fear Free Certified Practice, we promise to provide veterinary care in an environment that prioritizes the emotional wellbeing of our patients and their owners. By utilizing proven techniques like low-stress handling, maintaining emotional medical records for all of our patients, and using reinforcers that elicit trust, we can help reduce fear, anxiety and stress in our patients and their owners.
Why is it important to you, the pet owner, that VCA New Hartford is an AAHA accredited and Fear Free certified practice?
AAHA accreditation guarantees that our veterinary hospital and our team stays on the leading edge of veterinary medicine and provides the quality and range of services you and your pet deserve. Fear Free practice certification guarantees that our veterinary team delivers excellent care while focusing on the emotional wellbeing of your pet.

At VCA New Hartford Animal Hospital, we believe prevention is key to a long, healthy and happy life. We offer integrated and comprehensive internal medicine with life-stage preventive health care including canine and feline medicine and surgery. We also offer laser therapy and provide complete in-house diagnostics for our clients.
As veterinary professionals, we know that the stress and anxiety associated with taking a pet to the veterinarian is a significant reason why pets don't always receive the medical attention they need. Fear Free℠ veterinary visits reduce feelings of stress, resulting in a better experience for all involved, including pets, owners, and veterinary health care teams. Everyone on our team is a Fear Free℠ Certified Professional and can help alleviate your pet's fear, anxiety, and stress when visiting our hospital.
VCA New Hartford Animal Hospital is proud to be the only practice in New York State to be a dual certified practice, holding both the AAHA accreditation and the Fear Free Practice Certification.
