VCA Northwood Animal Hospital provides both a general practice for local clients and referral surgical care for pets from around the state. The facility is designed to give the best care possible for the sick and injured pet. The hospital, built in 1996, replaced the previous twenty-five year old facility. It contains advanced surgical suites, central supply, radiology suite, critical care and isolation areas as well as the normal examination rooms, laboratory, and pharmacy.
As a client of the general practice, you will normally see one of the local staff doctors. The referral surgery staff will consult with those doctors if advanced surgical care is needed.
Our goal is to give you and your pet the best care possible in a local setting. We are constantly reinvesting in more advanced equipment to give your pet state of the art care. We will do our best to treat your pet as thoroughly and carefully as if it were ours.
The veterinarians and staff at the VCA Northwood Animal Hospital believe that providing quality medical and surgery care is our primary mission. We believe that both the pet and the family of the pet deserve our best efforts. Prevention of disease and care for sick and injured pets are equally important. Humane, professional care will be given to each pet to the best of our ability.
Local Medical Issues
There are numerous local medical issues that can impact your pet's health, and that require your attention over the entire year. For example, there's heartworm, which can affect both cats and dogs. Since it's transmitted by mosquitoes, which thrive in our region, it's a serious cause for concern. But since the winter temperatures do not get cold enough here to kill mosquito eggs, it's a year-round risk. Likewise for the potential for flea and tick infestation, or intestinal parasites'"each of which poses a problem in any season. And finally, contrary to what you'd expect, allergies are a year-round issue. Many pets suffer from skin and ear allergies, the signs of which include scratching, redness in the ears, and "scaly" skin.
