Carolyn Rubin, Associate Veterinarian

DVM

Dr. Carolyn Rubin, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Neuropharmacology from Tulane University in 2001. She spent her early career in pharmaceutical research and development in Western Europe based in Rome, Italy. Dr. Rubin's interest in medicine brought her to back to the United States, where she graduated from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. During her time there she received grants from the NIH for her immunology and cancer research. After receiving her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Rubin practiced small animal medicine in New Orleans and then accepted a veterinary teaching role in Central America. She was awarded a medical title from the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, and subsequently joined the Smithsonian Institute's research field station in Bocas del Toro, Panama. While there, Dr. Rubin focused on work with primates and other tropical wildlife species, receiving veterinary medical students to study with her from around the world. In addition to offering medical services to the pets of the local and remote indigenous communities, Dr. Rubin provided expert consultation in conservation, animal protocols, and human public health interests to the ministry of environment, wildlife rescue centers, and other organizations. Finding the human-animal bond to be universal across cultural and economic differences, in 2020 she joined the American Veterinary Medical Association's Steering Committee on Human-Animal Interactions. Dr. Rubin, who now calls New York City home, joined Park East as an associate veterinarian in April 2020, bringing her years of experience and love of caring for animals, to our team.  When not at work she enjoys spending time with her two chihuahuas, Lunabel and Petal.
