Raymond Urban, Staff Veterinarian

DVM

Dr. Ray has known that he was meant to work in the veterinary field since he was 14 years old. At this time, he began shadowing and ultimately working as a veterinary assistant for his mentor in his hometown of Hubbard, OH until he left to start undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University.

It is during this time that he truly grasped that this was the profession that he wanted to be in – to help to alleviate animal suffering, to preserve the human-animal bond, to put the puzzle pieces together, and to be the voice for the patient that had none of their own.

Having graduated cum laude with a BS in Biology, he went on to graduate from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. He joined our staff in August of 2014 after previously working at a general practice & emergency clinic in Portsmouth, OH.

By the time he had graduated, he had been published in Authors of Tomorrow, co-authored a manuscript regarding canine fresh plasma compared to frozen plasma for use in transfusions that was published in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, and had even been a guitarist/singer in a metal band!

His current professional memberships include the AVMA, OVMA, TVMA (Toledo Veterinary Medical Association), AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association), IVAPM (International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management), and VIN (Veterinary Information Network). He has attended multiple continuing education sessions on ultrasonography and feels that it is an indispensable diagnostic test for many disease processes.

His professional interests include ultrasonography, cardiology, internal medicine, hematology, pain management, critical care, and staff education. He has a passion for teaching and furthering veterinary education with anyone who comes through our doors, from shadowing vet students to staff members and clients.

Dr. Ray enjoys being involved in judging the regional science fair, speaking at the occasional career days, and educating the public on the importance of many aspects of veterinary medicine. His personal interests include Cleveland sports teams, traveling, videogames, and exploring local sights and restaurants. He has two cats (Peeta and Benny).

Dr. Ray's knowledge, and willingness to teach, has been a great addition to our team.
