Dr. Diehl is the founder of VCA Timberlyne Animal Hospital and VCA Legion Road Animal Hospital and has lived in the Durham/Chapel Hill area since childhood. He is a 1977 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill and a 1982 graduate of Auburn University, College of Veterinary Medicine. An animal lover since childhood, Dr. Diehl spent many hours in high school working at a local animal hospital and finding new families for homeless dogs and cats. His professional interests include general surgery, canine sports injuries, and behavior and training. His wife, Tara, is the president of Triangle Search Dogs, Inc., a Chapel Hill based public charity which provides highly trained handler and K9 teams on an all volunteer basis for searches and emergency response in our community. She is a Canine Search Specialist with Virginia Task Force 2, our region's federal Urban Search and Rescue task force. They have 5 German Shepherds and a cat who teases the dogs constantly and is adored by all. Dr. Diehl considers it a special benefit of being a veterinarian to be able to play with other people's dogs and cats. You will usually find him on the floor in exam rooms playing stupid vet games with a dog. His interests outside of the practice are playing with his dogs and cat, fitness training, scuba diving, underwater photography and traveling. Dr. Diehl operates a small nonprofit organization whose mission is to assist animal welfare groups in under-served parts of the world by helping with spay and neuter efforts and donating much needed veterinary supplies.
