Pamela Ko, Veterinarian Specialist - Ophthalmology

After receiving a Bachelor of Science from Boston University, College of Electrical Engineering, Dr. Ko began working in Southern California aerospace industry and commercial corporations on designing digital signal processors and commercial database systems. Her curiosity and vision in applying engineering science that can make a real impact in medicine lead to pursuing further education at the Michigan State, College of Veterinary Medicine. After receiving a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, Dr. Ko spent time in small animal practice in Southern California before pursuing a joint clinical and pre-clinical ophthalmic commercial research ophthalmology internship in Irvine, California. As part of the four-year comparative veterinary ophthalmology residency curriculum in San Diego California, Dr. Ko continued focusing on translational research and biomedical science. After completion of her residency in 2017, Dr. Ko practiced in between Arizona and Southern Calfironia. She is honored that several of her research efforts have been recognized by professional organizations. Among them, her residency research presentation was selected as a "hot topic" of the year by the American Research and Vision Ophthalmology program committee in 2015. She received a travel grant from the International Society of Clinical and Electrophysiology and Vision to Perth, Australia, to present her optic nerve neuropathy research in 2011, and a travel fellowship from the International Society for Eye Research to Tokyo to present her pre-clinical transscleral diffusion for sustaining drug delivery in 2016. Dr. Ko became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2019.

Besides her professional interests, she is devoted to her menagerie of dogs and one cat, tending to her David Austin rose bushes, and a life-long interest in fine arts and music. She enjoys traveling throughout the world visiting botanical gardens, viewing architectural marvels, learning new languages, arts and culture. An interest in Children's book illustration enhances her artistic expression and imagination.
