Mechanical Ventilation

Mechanical ventilation can help patients breathe by assisting with the inhalation of Oxygen into the lungs and the exhalation of Carbon Dioxide. We are able to place patients on a mechanical ventilator when under anesthesia for surgical procedures. Long-term mechanical ventilation can also be performed in our CCU for patients with severe cardiac or respiratory illness, neurologic disease, or for patients who are in prolonged shock. Candidates for mechanical ventilation include patients with pulmonary contusions after trauma, noncardiogenic pulmonary edema, as well as patients with certain neurological diseases.
