Deer Creek Animal Hospital is a busy fourteen-doctor practice with a professional staff of
approximately 85 employees. Our AAHA hospital is located in the beautiful foothills of Littleton, Colorado (a
southwestern suburb of Denver), which provides easy access to a multitude of outdoor activities and all the comforts
of “Big City” life.
The hospital was founded in 1984 and recently expanded to 18,500 square feet. The doctors have special interests which
include internal medicine, geriatric medicine, gastroenterology, soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology, orthopedic
surgery, arthroscopy, behavioral counseling and emergency medicine. We also see patients on a referral basis for
cardiology, endoscopy, ultrasonography, dentistry and laparoscopic surgery. We were awarded the year 2000 Hospital of
Excellence Award from “Veterinary Economics”.
As an extern you will be expected to work from 8:00 a.m. until we finish in the evening according to the
hospital’s needs and if more than one extern is here. You will be given a day off during the week which may
vary. Your schedule can be discussed by email prior to your arrival or at the time of your arrival. We have some great
opportunities for the students during our rotation now. Along with our high caseload of challenging medicine and
surgery cases, we are now providing students the opportunity to perform a laparoscopic spay. Students will also gain
experience in performing elective surgeries and in some instances more advance surgeries as well. Our philosophy is to
give you as much “hands on” experience as your previous course studies allow for. We have a bedroom with a
bunk bed, a closet for your personal belongings, a full bathroom, refrigerator, and microwave. Also, because of our
limited space, we ask that you do not bring any pets to our hospital during your externship.
This is an outstanding opportunity for you to gain extensive practical small animal clinical experience, and we would
be pleased to have you learn with us. If you have any questions you can correspond with Annaliese Lorenzen by
telephone or e-mail. Please contact us at 303-973-4200 or by email at [email protected].
Note: Please provide proof of being an AVMA member for liability insurance purposes.
