Joseph Richter
Medical Director DVM

Dr. Joe has been working in veterinary medicine for over 20 years, and joined the VCA MECA team as Medical Director in December of 2019. Dr. Joe grew up on a dairy farm in northeast Indiana and graduated from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Following graduation, he did a medical and surgical internship at Sacramento Animal Medical Group in Sacramento, California from 2002 to 2003. From 2003 until 2014, he practiced at a VCA hospital in Tacoma, Washington, providing general wellness services, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. In 2015, Dr. Joe became Medical Director at a 24-hour emergency hospital in Uniontown, Ohio, and served in that role until 2017, when he and his wife relocated to Wisconsin to be closer to family. After moving to Wisconsin, Dr. Joe became Medical Director at VCA Saukville, where he still practices surgery part-time in conjunction with his position at MECA. Professionally, he enjoys emergency medicine, orthopedic surgery and endoscopy. Outside of work, he enjoys fishing, sporting events, travel and spending time with his family and his standard poodle, Goose.
