From the first few weeks of a life well into the senior years, your pet's health and wellness needs change and evolve. That's why you want to make sure that your San Diego veterinary clinic can accommodate all of those needs, challenges, and phases of life. Here at VCA Bay Park Animal Hospital, we maintain a full suite of services and techniques to help your pet thrive, including:

  • Preventative care - We can watch over every inch of your pet to ensure his ongoing wellness, providing valuable preventative services ranging from physical exams and dental care to vaccinations and parasite prevention.
  • Surgery - If your pet must undergo surgery, you'll feel a lot better knowing that we're one of the few San Diego clinics that provides state-of-the-art endoscopic and laparoscopic surgical procedures. We can perform emergency trauma surgery, tumor removals, dental surgery, orthopedic surgery, spay/neuter surgery and more.
  • Internal medicine, external medicine and pain management - Our advanced diagnostic methods help us detect internal or external health challenges quickly and accurately. We then provide a wide range of treatment options to help your pet recover. If your pet is suffering from acute or chronic pain, we offer drug-free treatment options such as cold laser therapy an even acupuncture.

Meet Our Veterinarians and Staff

Dr. Eric Posthumus is our Medical Director and he joined our practice back in 2012 after completing his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from UC David School of Veterinary Medicine. There, Dr. Posthumus served as a member of the Phi Zeta Honor Society as well. His specialty areas include diagnostic ultrasounds, soft-tissue surgery, and internal medicine.

Dr. Crosby Roper is one of our Associate Veterinarians and his areas of expertise include endoscopy, acupuncture, and ultrasonography. Our pet owners enjoy that he’s always willing to take the time to sit down and answer any questions or concerns.

We also have a consulting surgery specialist on our staff, Dr. Dan Frankel, who provides consultations for surgeries as well as orthopedic and soft tissue procedures in our office. Dr. Frankel is a board-certified specialist.

In addition to our doctors, we also have a great team of staff members committed to making your pet’s experience with us as enjoyable as possible. Our dental hygienist, Juan O., has been with us longer than any other employee here at VCA Bay Park Animal Hospital. He specializes in dental cleaning and is great at keeping pets at ease while they’re here.

We also have an experienced team of veterinary assistants, office assistants, and veterinary technicians who are proud to serve you and your furry companions.

Our Facility

VCA Bay Park Animal Hospital relocated to a new 3800-square-foot facility in June 2010. The facility has an open floor plan that accommodates a large treatment area, a designated sterile surgery suite, an in-house laboratory, radiology room, a special-procedures suite for endoscopy and ultrasonography, an isolation ward as well as separate dog and cat wards. We received our AAHA accreditation in 2011. We are proud of our hospital and invite you to come take a tour. We think you will like what you see.

American Animal Hospital Association

The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) sets the standard for quality veterinary care for companion animals. As an accredited hospital, we voluntarily uphold the Association's high standards in 18 different areas and are routinely evaluated on over 900 different standards of veterinary care. Not all animal hospitals are accredited, and we are proud to be amongst only 12-15% of veterinary hospitals that hold this honor.

Lionbridge provides over-the-phone and video interpretation services for non-English-speaking and American Sign Language (ASL) clients. In real time, veterinary providers can enlist an expert Lionbridge interpreter to facilitate a clear exchange of information between themselves and clients. Lionbridge’s on-demand, remote interpretation services enable effective and accurate communication with clients. This service empowers clients to be heard and spoken to in their own language, which in turn facilitates a deeper understanding of the care your pet needs.
