Dr. April Hommerding joined the team in 2024 after earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from University of Wisconsin - Madison. She also has two Bachelor of Science degrees in Conservation Biology and Environmental Studies from UW-Madison. Growing up, she always had a special affinity with cats, then decided to focus her career on feline medicine prior to veterinary school while she worked at a feline-only practice for six years. During veterinary school, she served as the president of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) Student Chapter and helped establish monthly feline-only surgery and wellness days for community cats in partnership with a local humane society. In her clinical year of veterinary school, she was awarded the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) Certificate of Clinical Excellence for her demonstration of sincere interest and outstanding didactic and clinical skills in internal medicine.
Dr. Hommerding's interests include feline internal medicine, dentistry, behavior, and emphasizing the importance of a feline-friendly environment. Her goal is to minimize the stress of veterinary visits for cats (and their humans) and provide a thorough healthcare plan guided by the latest research.
In her free time, Dr. Hommerding enjoys being outdoors, cooking (especially recipes inspired by her Italian roots), visiting family in Wisconsin, tasting new craft beer, and of course spending time with her three cats.
