Dr. Czerwonky, also known as Dr. Z, graduated from the University of Chicago in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies. She earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. She decided to pursue feline medicine and got her first job after veterinary school at VCA Cat Hospital of Chicago in July 2001. Dr. Z is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, Chicago Veterinary Medical Association, and Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association. She enjoys attending continuing education conferences that focus on feline medicine.
She considers herself fortunate to have found a practice with smart, caring doctors and an amazing support team. In the years since she first began practicing, Dr. Z has developed a strong interest in feline dentistry and dental surgery, as well as partnering with owners to personalize their long-term care options with chronic illnesses. She recognizes that as feline medicine advances, the options and choices can be overwhelming. She believes it is vital for families to understand those options and be involved in their cat's care.
Dr. Z and her husband, ER veterinarian Dr. Will Fischbach, have a mixed herd residing at their home. She has a bonded pair of FIV+ kitties. Yahzoo is a gregarious, but mischievous, cat who enjoys kitty parkour and breaking into the cheese popcorn. Catasuarus Rex is a nervous teddy bear who loves tummy rubs and scritches and meals. Reggie is her cat-sized dog who gets by on his charm and lap-warming abilities. Dr. Z's children make up the last and most time-consuming members of the herd; since Charlotte and Zane arrived home has never been the same. What's been lost in sleep and order has more than been made up for in silliness, cuddles, and the privilege of helping these little people become big people.
