Dr. Daphne Thompson joined Cat Hospital of Chicago in August 2009. Dr. Thompson previously practiced at several feline-only veterinary facilities, including three-and-a-half-years at Calgary Cat Clinic in Alberta, Canada, and another five years at Cat Hospital at Towson Veterinary Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She decided to focus her career on felines during an externship at The Cat Clinic in York, Maine, and while she served as a technician and assistant at Cats Only Veterinary Clinic in Columbus, Ohio.
Dr. Thompson has a Bachelor of Science in Pre-medicine and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Dayton. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. Dr. Thompson is trained in veterinary acupuncture and is currently finishing her certification requirements through Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine, the leading veterinary continuing education provider of traditional Chinese Veterinary medicine.
Dr. Thompson is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association, the American Association of Feline Practioners, the American Veterinary Medical Association and several state and provincial medical associations. In 2004, she served on the American Animal Hospital Association committee that drafted feline practice guidelines. Dr. Thompson is a Petplan 2015 Veterinarian of the Year nominee.
Fluent in Dutch, Dr. Thompson was born in Holland and moved to the Midwest as a small child. Her interests include hiking, Celtic dance, photography, reading, horseback riding, baking and cooking for parties. A travel enthusiast, Dr. Thompson's favorite places to visit include Prague, Bruges and Western Ireland. An admitted sucker for classic tabbies, she shares her home with her cats, all of whom were rescues and require continued medical attention. Dr. Thompson also has a weakness for giraffes and frogs.
