Kathy Jo Pike’s hometown is Elizabeth City in northeastern North Carolina.
She grew up around all types of animals and farming. Kathy especially loves dachshunds and horses. She started riding American saddlebred horses when she was 12 years old and got her first horse, Roxy, at 14 years old. After graduating high school, Kathy moved to Williamston, NC, to attend Martin Community College studying equine technology. Upon completing her associate’s degree, she transferred into North Carolina State University. In 2006, she earned her bachelor's degree in agribusiness management with minors in economics and animal science.
While in school at NCSU, Kathy was granted the learning opportunity to become a "live in" technician at Apex Equine Hospital in 2004 for night treatments, foal watch, and delivery. After graduating from NSCU in 2006, she took a secondary position as reception in small animal at VCA Apex, VCA Broad Street and VCA Cornerstone Animal Hospitals. In September 2007, Kathy moved to Pitt County to work at Firetower Animal Clinic. After six years in reception, she took on the role of head receptionist at their sister location, Animal Hospital of Pitt County. In 2015, she became a part of the management team and in 2019 the hospital became partnered with Southern Veterinary Partners. After the passing of her beloved horse, Roxy, at the age of 28, Kathy decided it was time for a change. In 2021, looking for a change of scenery, she and her fiancé moved to the Surfside Beach, SC area and she rejoined VCA at Seaside Animal Hospital in Calabash, NC. Kathy quickly learned while she still loved the beach that was too far from family. That brought Kathy full circle, returning to the Raleigh area where she became the hospital manager here at VCA Broad Street Animal Hospital in Fuquay-Varina, NC.
Special Interests: Boring stuff=mowing grass, planting flowers, reading on her Kindle, inventory management, budgets for the hospital. Crazy stuff=riding motorcycles at Myrtle Beach bike week, trail riding ATV and side-by-side UTV at Carolina Adventure World or Hatfield-McCoy.
