Dr. Avon Tai-Machado grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, and attended the University of Arizona for her undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology. While at the University of Arizona, she met her now husband, and they adopted their first dog, Peekaboo. She then moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to attend veterinary school at Colorado State University. During veterinary school, she also earned an MBA, adopted another dog, Pele, as well as two cats, Puddles and Pippin. She graduated in 2008 and stayed in the Rocky Mountain region for three years, where she worked as the medical director for VCA Thornton.

In 2011, Dr. Avon Tai-Machado moved back to Arizona, where she joined the team at VCA Animal Medical Center of Tucson while her husband pursued his Ph.D. After her husband completed his program, they decided to make a permanent home in San Diego with the entire family which included two dogs, two cats, and two children. Dr. Avon Tai-Machado has special interests and experience in animal dentistry as well as animal behavior. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, and just about anything outdoors in the San Diego weather. She looks forward to the new and exciting adventures at VCA Grossmont in the years to come.
