Dr. Mauro began working as a vet assistant in a prominent north shore animal hospital when she was 15 years old. She received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University. Upon graduation, Dr. Mauro interned as a research assistant specializing in diabetes at Long Island Jewish Hospital. She is a published author in the Journal of Endocrinology. Dr. Mauro attended vet school at the University of Florida, graduating with high honors in 1995. She has been practicing at Southgate Animal Hospital since 1995 and was promoted to Medical Director in 1997.
