Animal Rehabilitation

JH Wellness Center inside VCASpring Creek Animal hospital is operated by Dr. Kaley Parent. She offers rehabilitation therapy for common conditions such as geriatric care/arthritis, orthopedic and neurologic rehab, pre- and post-operative therapy as well as sports medicine and conditioning. Treatment methods may include acupuncture, manual therapy, laser therapy, neuromuscular electrical stimulation (E-Stim), therapeutic exercise, home exercise programs. therapeutic massage, cryo and thermotherapy and help with orthotics and prosthetics. Dr. Parent also offers hospice care and house calls for patients in need.

Modalities & Treatment Methods
Acupuncture: This non-invasive treatment improves nerve function which reduces pain & restores the ability or desire to move. This neuromodulation facilitates recovery from an injury or illness. It may also reduce inflammation & modulate immunity.

Therapeutic Exercise: Uses special equipment like exercise balls, cavaletti poles, stairs, and inclines.

  • Balance & Proprioception: Strengthening core muscles and improving body awareness.
  • Stretching: Increasing circulation and muscle flexibility.
  • Strengthening: Focuses on strengthening different muscles or muscle groups.
  • Passive Range of Motion: Improve the ability of the joint to flex and extend, and improve flexibility of muscles and tendons.

Laser Therapy: Class IV Therapeutic Laser treatments are shown to relieve muscle and joint pain, relieve arthritis symptoms, relax muscle spasms and increase blood flow to help wound healing.

Home Exercise Program: All clients will be given instruction in a home exercise program.

Manual Therapy: Any form of therapy that uses the therapist’s hands including joint mobilizations, traction, and muscle trigger point release.

Electrical Stimulation: The application of electrical current which results in a muscle contraction. It can be used for both pain management and muscle atrophy.

Orthotics and Prosthetics: We can help determine whether your dog would benefit from custom fitted splints, braces, carts or artificial limbs. We assist with measurement, fitting, and use of this equipment.

Cryo & Thermotherapy: The appropriate use of hot or cold application to decrease pain, reduce inflammation and promote healing.

Therapeutic Massage: Increases circulation to improve healing, decrease pain, reduce muscle knots and reduce stress/anxiety.
