"As a young child, I always loved animals. I vividly recall the time I found a stray beagle wandering the streets as I was walking home from school. I had never had a dog, but I was quite concerned that this dog was homeless and that she would not have food to eat or a comfortable place to sleep that night. I decided to bring the dog home, explaining to my mother that it would only be "temporary". It would just be until I could find a permanent home for the dog. Needless to say, that dog, which I named Sugar, stayed in our home for fifteen years. Sugar turned out to be the first in a long line of dogs that I brought home over the years. My introduction to cats began when I heard that there were some kittens trapped in a neighborhood sewer. I felt compelled to try and save the kittens. I was so intent on finding homes for the kittens, even though I had never actually seen them, that I set off running from house to house, imploring anyone and everyone to please take a kitten! Unfortunately for me, my enthusiasm got the better of me, and I failed to notice a step I was approaching at breakneck speed... I tripped on the step and fell through the glass door to the house. I distinctly remember pleading with the neighbor whose door I had just destroyed, to please take a kitten. Moments later I noticed the damage I had done to my wrist, and I fainted. When I woke up in the hospital the first thing I did was to ask the doctor and nurse if they would please take a kitten!! It is this innate love of animals that inspired me to become a veterinary assistant!"
