Dr. Kayla Pennington is a born-and-raised Dallas native. She received her bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Texas A&M University and later graduated with top honors from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. She has been practicing in the DFW area since graduating and joined the VCA Preston Park team in December 2020.
Dr. Pennington's love for veterinary medicine dates back to her grade school days, and that love and passion for the field is what drives her to provide top-quality care for all her patients and clients. She is Fear Free Certified and our hospital's resident ultrasound expert. Additionally, she is actively working on her acupuncture certificate, which she will complete later this year. Her special veterinary interests include ultrasonography, feline medicine, acupuncture and pain management, and senior pet care.
Dr. Pennington's favorite part of her job is helping our clients' pets through the most difficult parts of life. She believes all our clients ought to know that veterinary medicine is a calling, and that we do it all for the love of their pets. At home, Dr. Pennington has four pets of her own. Quinn is her sassy old lady cat. Then she has Pepper, her goofy and incredibly sweet German Shorthaired Pointer. Finally, she has Ben and Jerry, who were kitten rescues brought to VCA Preston Park off the streets. The gentleman who brought them in saved them from a stray canine, and both had gnarly cases of ringworm. As they got healthier in our hospital's care, since the gentleman was unable to take them himself, Dr. Pennington and her family decided to adopt them. They're happy, healthy, and more dapper than ever as they boast the most adorable bowties at home.
The best advice Dr. Pennington says she's ever been given is to always do your best. She actively applies this to her work! Her favorite inspirational quote is "Nothing that is worth having in this life comes easy." If she were an animal, Dr. Pennington would absolutely want to be a house cat and sleep all the time.
Beyond her work here, Dr. Pennington enjoys crafting colorful friendship bracelets, spending time with friends and family, being a mom to her two sons, and relaxing with her husband. She loves playing with her kiddos, watching them grow, and doing her best to be a great mom (we know she's rocking it!).
