Dr. Rebecca Dowd was born and raised in Plano, Texas. She obtained her bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Texas A&M in 2016 and went on to receive her DVM from Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2022. Dr. Dowd dreamed of becoming a veterinarian starting in the third grade and has always loved animals and science. She remembers feeling inspired by many animal and science shows growing up: Zoboomafoo, Wishbone, and Bill Nye, to name a few. She's been working at VCA Preston Park since July 2022.
Dr. Dowd's areas of interest include internal medicine, clinical pathology, infectious diseases, wound management, dermatology, and dentistry. She is a Fear Free and Cat Friendly Certified veterinarian, passionate about making veterinary visits as stress-free as possible. Dr. Dowd is accredited by the USDA to provide international and interstate travel certificates. Her favorite part of her work is collaborating with clients to come up with a treatment plan to help their pet. She feels like she's done her job well if both the pet and their owner feel better and at ease. In fact, she thinks all our clients ought to know that we always give their pets lots of treats in the treatment area. We really strive to make the clinic a happy place for your pets.
At home, Dr. Dowd has three cats of her own—Barney, Ted, and Robin—all named after characters from the TV show How I Met Your Mother. If Dr. Dowd were an animal, she would be a sea lion. She says this is because she'd be able to swim in the ocean and lie around in the sun. Dr. Dowd strives to live by this piece of advice: "Don't judge yourself for the bad days."
Beyond her work here at VCA Preston Park, Dr. Dowd enjoys numerous activities. She is actively practicing Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial arts style. She enjoys attending concerts and watching her favorite sports teams, such as the Dallas Mavericks, the Dallas Stars, and the Aggies. She is scuba certified and loves to go scuba diving. She's learning Spanish, and finally, she enjoys trying out new restaurants and playing games on the Nintendo Switch. Her favorite game is currently Pokémon Pokopia.
