Helen
Groomer

Helen grew up in a military family, so she moved around a lot. She went to Weaver High School and graduated in 1981. She lived in Kentucky, Florida, Germany and Hawaii. She is a mother of three women and has six grandchildren. Helen sings in the choir at her church and is active in church socials.

Helen always dreamed of working with animals and at the age of 26, she was hired on at VCA AMC and has been here since. She has worked other jobs prior to this job, but the vet world is her passion. She said, "The doctors have taught me more than I could have ever imagined." Helen says it is a pleasure to work with animals and she is grateful for being able to be a part of their lives. She said, "Animals can't speak for themselves, so I am happy to be able to take care of their needs. Animals are a true gift because they give us love without any strings attached. As long as you care for them, they will stay by your side."

Outside of work, Helen enjoys caring for her pets at home and tending to her flower garden. She enjoys being with family and watching her grandchildren grow up. Horses are a main part of her life and she sees them as a gift to her soul. She also enjoys crafting and building things. Helen currently has six animals of her own: two dogs, one cat, and three horses.

When asked what unique qualities she brings to the hospital, she said, "I am a pet groomer and have groomed professionally for over 33 years now. I taught myself at the age of 13 after a friend gave me a set of clippers. I have clipped dogs, cats, and horses ever since. I try to share my skills and knowledge with others around me."
