Dr. Jake Hare (we think his last name is awesome, don't you?!) grew up in Point Loma and decided he was going to be a veterinarian during his freshman year of high school. Dr. Hare actually started his career in veterinary medicine as a kennel assistant in 2004. He attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo earning degrees in Biology and Modern Languages & Literatures before moving on to UC Davis' School of Veterinary Medicine. He completed an externship at the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston but ultimately decided to stick with companion animal medicine. After graduating in 2015, Dr. Hare returned to practice at the same clinic he worked as a kennel assistant before we were lucky enough to find him. Since joining VCA Rancho San Diego Animal Hospital in June of 2017, Dr. Hare immediately became part of our family, adding to the already existing camaraderie here.
Dr. Hare has special interests in surgery and neurology and has worked with organizations like Feral Cat Coalition and Rescue House. Away from work, Dr. Hare enjoys reading, the beach, snowboarding and playing Ultimate Frisbee which he's been doing for 13 years. Dr. Hare currently shares his home with his kitty, Auri.
