Dr. Alex Barnes

Veterinarian Specialist - Emergency/Critical Care

DVM, DACVECC

Dr. Alex Barnes was born and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona, where his passion for animal care began early while growing up as the son of a small animal veterinarian. After earning his BS in Veterinary Science from the University of Arizona, he went on to complete his DVM at Colorado State University in 2015.

Driven by a deep interest in life-saving medicine, Dr. Barnes pursued advanced training in Emergency and Critical Care (ECC), completing a dedicated ECC internship at WVRC in Waukesha, Wisconsin, followed by an ECC residency at ACCESS in Culver City. This training shaped his expertise in managing critically ill patients and providing high-level specialty care.

Dr. Barnes’ professional interests include sepsis management, nephrology, and diagnostic imaging, all of which complement his work as a Critical Care specialist. His clinical approach centers on rapid intervention, comprehensive diagnostics, and compassionate support for both pets and their families during medical emergencies.

Outside the hospital, Alex is an avid rock climber. He has climbed on multiple continents and has worked as a professional route setter for indoor climbing gyms across the country, channeling the same focus, precision, and problem-solving he brings to critical care medicine.
