Dr. Mark Levy joins VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center of Westbury where he will be leading the Surgery Department practicing at the highest level of veterinary surgery. With over 30 years of experience in specialty referral veterinary medicine, Dr. Levy is renowned for his expertise across a diverse array of surgical procedures.
This includes all aspects of veterinary orthopedics ranging, from treating cruciate ligament injuries to managing complicated fractures with advanced techniques such as plating, pinning repairs to external skeletal fixation. He has vast experience in complicated soft tissue surgeries, including adrenalectomy and oncologic reconstruction such as large body wall mass removal and reconstruction.
In addition to his proficiency in orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, Dr. Levy is highly skilled in neurological and spinal procedures, including intervertebral disk disease surgery and the repair of spinal fractures or luxations. He is also adept at performing laparoscopic and arthroscopic procedures and is a proponent of regenerative medicine, utilizing stem cell therapy and platelet-rich plasma treatments.
He completed a one-year rotating internship at the prestigious Animal Medical Center (AMC) from 1992-1993, and was then selected to stay on as surgical resident until he graduated in 1996. He achieved board certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) shortly thereafter. He then spent 2 years at a 100% surgical referral practice in New Jersey, then came to Long Island where he practiced at Long Island Veterinary Specialists from 1998-1999. From January of 2001 to December 2009 he was a surgeon at Florida Veterinary Specialists (BluePearl Veterinary Partners). Additionally, from 2019 until July 2023, he worked per diem at Gold Coast Center for Veterinary Care. He and his wife moved back to Long Island and from 2010 to 2024 Dr. Levy has been providing specialized surgical care at BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Forest Hills and Manhattan.
Recently, Dr. Levy and his wife made a work life balance decision and he decided to work much closer to home. Dr. Levy is very excited to join the team at VCA VREC Westbury and bring all of his experience to the local community.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Levy has been married for over 30 years to the love of his life, Deborah. They have two children, Michelle and Marty, a daughter-in-law, Alyssa, and share their home with Frostie, a playful soft coated Wheaten Terrier, and a grand-puppy, Rory.
