Dr. Scott Gellman, VMD, MS, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2004 and has worked for hospitals in the Philadelphia area gaining skill and expertise with cats, dogs and exotic pets.
Why I Do What I Do: Adventures with a pet rabbit and a dog with encephalitis when he was a child led Dr. Gellman to determine at an early age that he wanted to become a veterinarian. His interest in exotic pets, like lizards, snakes, ferrets, and chinchillas, evolved when he was in medical school. Why? These pets are uncommon, he says, and they don't have the same number of doctors advocating for them as do dogs and cats. "I wanted to help them," he says.
Dr. Gellman lives in Gilbertsville with his wife and daughter—and cats, ducks and a handful of other animals that need a temporary or permanent home. (If you've never eaten a duck egg, he says, you're missing a truly EGGcellent experience!)
