Dr. Tarek Hendawy, known as Dr. Hend, is an accomplished veterinarian with a strong academic background in food microbiology and veterinary medical sciences. He earned his PhD in 2016 from Alexandria University, focusing on Enterobacteriaceae in imported fish, and holds a Master's degree in Food Microbiology from Damanhur University. Dr. Hend also completed his Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medical Sciences at Alexandria University.
Having joined VCA in 2024, Dr. Hend is passionate about animal care and finds great joy in helping animals regain their health. Originally from Saudi Arabia, he lived there for 16 years before moving to Egypt for his studies. After completing his education, he spent time in Austria before relocating to the U.S. in 2014.
Outside of work, Dr. Hend is a nature enthusiast, relishing activities like hiking, camping, fishing, and beach outings. He looks forward to exploring Staten Island while working at VCA and enjoys cooking, believing that flavor matters more than presentation. Professionally, Dr. Hend has a keen interest in special surgeries, particularly for bone fractures, and aspires to become board certified in surgery in the future. He is also a proud pet owner of Rico, a 7-month-old Ragdoll cat.
