Leah Smith, Staff Veterinarian
Dr. Smith entered onto active duty with the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps upon graduation, caring for military working dogs, military families' pets, and even military dolphins. Dr. Smith joined VCA in 2008 after completing her active duty commitment, although she remains active in the Army Reserves. She has held the role of medical director in several VCA hospitals and has worked in the VCA recruiting department for veterinary students.
Dr. Smith is board-certified in veterinary preventive medicine and holds a Master of Public Health. She has many interests, including emergency medicine, preventive medicine, complementary medicine such as acupuncture and physical rehabilitation, and the human-animal bond.
Dr. Smith is married, with one daughter, 3 dogs, and 1 kitty. While most of her free time is spent serving in her Army Reserves roles, when she does get some free time, she enjoys working out, playing volleyball, and cheering for her daughter who plays collegiate Division I NCAA volleyball in Virginia.
