Cold Laser Therapy

Deer Creek Animal Hospital is excited to provide this innovative healing and pain relieving modality. Stated in the simplest terms, laser therapy uses light to heal the body from within on a cellular level.

There are many lasers being used in our world today. The different classes of lasers (I-IV) vary in output power, wavelength, and power density. For the past 30 years, lasers have been used as a therapeutic modality treating humans and animals. The Class IV lasers have shown to be the most effective at providing relief of pain through the light waves that they emit.

In 2007, the FDA approved therapeutic lasers for decreasing pain, decreasing inflammation, and increasing blood flow. The National Institute of Health has been studying its affects as well. Their research shows that treatment can penetrate the tissues even to the depth of the spinal cord. Laser therapy is gaining widespread acceptance as a standard of care in the veterinary profession.

Some of the reasons why laser therapy works:

• Accelerates wound healing and tissue repair
• Decreases inflammation and edema
• Stimulates cartilage production and nerve regeneration
• Increases circulation (important to healing)
• Relaxes muscles
• Decreases pain (produces endorphins and releases serotonin)
• Stimulates acupuncture points
