How do vaccines protect my pet against disease?
Vaccines introduce antigens (inactive proteins) into the system, which look like disease-causing organisms to the body’s immune system, but don’t actually cause the disease. The body combats the antigen and “learns” how to recognize and fight the organism should it ever be encountered again.

What diseases do vaccines protect my pet against?
There are a number of vaccinations available for use. They are broken down into two categories: core and non-core. Core vaccinations are vital to administer since they address serious diseases or diseases that are transmissible to humans. Are vaccines safe for my pet?
As with any medical procedure, there is a small chance of side effects. You may see mild symptoms ranging from soreness at the injection site to fever and allergic reactions, such as swelling or hives. Major reactions typically occur quickly, before you leave our office. Overall, the risks are much smaller than the risks of the disease itself. Again, we will discuss your pet’s medical history and risk to develop an appropriate personalized protocol.
