Dr. Derek enjoys forming lasting relationships with clients while helping pets live healthier lives. He has professional interests in exotics, surgery, dentistry, and wildlife and zoo medicine, and enjoys helping exotic pet owners in Rockville access experienced local veterinary care.
Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Derek completed a three-year volunteership at a zoo, where he worked with pinnipeds, raptors, otters, beavers, wolves, pelicans, ducks, primates, reptiles, and small mammals. During veterinary school, he also completed a hands-on externship focused on small mammals, reptiles, and avian species. These experiences strengthened his medical skills and deepened his passion for exotic animal medicine.
Before earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, Dr. Derek worked as an accountant for several years. That background sharpened his analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, which now support his careful diagnostic approach. He also spent three years as a veterinary assistant at VCA, gaining valuable hands-on experience in patient care.
Dr. Derek is Fear Free Certified and holds CAETA Peaceful Euthanasia Certification, ensuring care that prioritizes comfort, dignity, and emotional well-being.
