Fiona Scarlett, RVN, RVT, VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia) (she/her), is a veterinary nurse specializing in anesthesia at VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center. She graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in the UK in 2001 with her veterinary nursing education and holds a BSc (Hons) in Animal Science, focusing on Behavior Studies. Fiona is a certified Veterinary Technician Specialist in Anesthesia & Analgesia, with additional certifications in Western Veterinary Acupuncture, Chronic Pain Management, and Basic and Advanced Life Support.

Fiona, originally from the UK, has gained veterinary experience in the UK, UAE, Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand. She relocated to Sacramento in 2017 and joined VCA in 2018. Passionate about mentoring, she especially enjoys helping those who benefit from alternative learning methods. Fiona has authored articles for the Veterinary Nursing Times and contributed to the BSAVA Manual on small animal pain management. A new chapter on anesthesia in hepatobiliary patients is planned for publication in 2026.

Her professional interests encompass locoregional anesthesia, enhanced recovery after surgery, pain assessment, small animal behavior, and fear-free handling. Outside work, she enjoys gardening, scuba diving, cooking, and roasting coffee beans. She lives with her husband and their two spirited German Shorthaired Pointer mixes, Juno and Jupiter.
