Born and raised in Florida, A.K. spent several years of her childhood fostering kittens, birds, lizards, and whatever wildlife popped up on her porch, while also volunteering her time at the local Humane Society & Animal Resource Center. She started her first position in veterinary medicine as an intake coordinator at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, managing hundreds of animals moving in and out of the shelter on a daily basis. After a few years, she decided to make the jump to move to Minnesota. She became a veterinary technician at the Animal Humane Society for about a year before moving into the city and finding her new role with VCA's Animal Hospitals as a veterinary assistant. A.K.'s primary passions in the veterinary medicine field are community outreach, accessibility, and education.
In her free time, A.K. loves to be surrounded by nature. She is always hiking with her German shepherd and birdwatching with her cats. At home, you can find her taking care of her handful of plants, or the menagerie of reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates she has rescued over the years. Her love for the strange and unusual started when she adopted her first snake, Milo, an 18-year-old ball python with vestibular disease.
