Jamilah W.

Veterinary Assistant

Jamilah is a veterinary assistant at VCA Columbia Animal Hospital at Centre Park in Columbia, Maryland, where she supports a collaborative care team focused on compassionate veterinary medicine and strong relationships with the families they serve. In her role, Jamilah focuses on helping pets feel comfortable during their visits while ensuring families feel supported through clear communication and thoughtful care.

Jamilah earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from Hampton University and is currently continuing her education through the Penn Foster veterinary technician program. Her path in veterinary medicine began as a client service representative before transitioning into a veterinary assistant role, giving her a well-rounded perspective on both the medical and client experience sides of the hospital. She plans to continue advancing her career with the long-term goal of attending veterinary school.

“My goal is to provide a place where pets and their families feel confident in the care they receive and connected to the team caring for them.”

One of the most rewarding parts of Jamilah’s work is watching pets grow alongside the families who love them. Seeing a puppy return year after year as they mature into adulthood and knowing she played a role in helping them grow into healthy adult dogs brings a strong sense of purpose to her work.

She also enjoys the variety and problem-solving that comes with veterinary medicine. Because no two patients or appointments are the same, the role requires flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to think quickly while supporting both pets and their owners.

“I love that every patient is different. The variety and problem-solving involved in veterinary medicine keeps me learning and growing every day.”

At VCA Columbia Animal Hospital at Centre Park in Columbia, MD, Jamilah is part of a veterinary team dedicated to creating a welcoming environment where pets are treated like family and clients receive clear guidance and compassionate support throughout their pet’s care. Her commitment to learning, teamwork, and patient care helps strengthen the trusted relationships the hospital builds with families across the Columbia community.
