Dr. James Garvin is a dedicated and passionate veterinarian who joined VCA in March 2025. Originally from Rockford, IL, Dr. Garvin has always had a deep love for animals and a strong commitment to their well-being.
Dr. Garvin completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Southern Arkansas, where he laid the foundation for his veterinary career. He then pursued his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree at the University of Illinois, further honing his skills and knowledge in veterinary medicine.
With a special interest in surgery, Dr. Garvin finds immense joy and fulfillment in his work. His favorite part of the job is receiving "pibble kisses" from the affectionate pit bulls he cares for. This unique bond with his patients highlights his compassionate approach to veterinary care.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Garvin enjoys a variety of hobbies including baseball, football, fishing, hunting, and carpentry. These activities allow him to unwind and connect with nature, reflecting his well-rounded personality.
Dr. Garvin shares his life with a wonderful family of pets. His dogs, Wrigley, Paris, Bryzzo, Sookie, Pita, and Hummus, bring him endless joy and companionship. Additionally, he has horses named Petri, Jimmy, Brooklyn, and Gabe, as well as six chickens, who add to the vibrant and loving environment of his home.
