Dr. Ryan grew up in Kitsap County and graduated from North Kitsap High School. Inspired by reading the James Herriot series and his love for animals, he decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine while in junior high school.
Dr. Ryan received a bachelor's degree in veterinary science and went on to Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated Cum Laude. The original Olympic Animal Hospital in Silverdale was established by Drs. Mike and Mardell Ryan in 1985 with an important mission in serving the needs of both pets and families in the Central Kitsap community with a continual focus on compassionate care and high-quality services. Dr. Ryan also served as regional medical director for all Pets Choice Hospitals in Washington state where he was responsible for improving quality of care across multiple hospitals.
Dr. Ryan has a special appreciation for the human - animal bond and loves helping pets and their owners live healthy fulfilling lives. He and his wife (who is also a veterinarian) have raised three boys (along with numerous pets of all kinds) in Kitsap County and are currently blessed with eight grandchildren. Dr. Ryan loves spending time outdoors hiking, biking, kayaking and boating.
His professional interests include dermatology, internal medicine, and geriatric medicine in addition to preventative health care.
