You’ve probably heard that a dog ages 7 years for every 1 human year. That’s not totally true, but you can draw correlations between the age an animal is and what the approximate corresponding age might be in a human. So, what about cat years? How old is your 1-year-old cat in human years?
The first year of a cat’s life is akin to 15 years of a human’s life. Your cat is full swing into their teen decade! But don’t worry—they’ll be out of this period in no time. Once they’re 2 years old, they’ll be like a 24-year-old human. From there on out, you usually add 4 cat years for every 1 human year. So, a 3-year-old cat is like a 28-year-old person, while a 4-year-old cat is like a 32-year-old person and so on. By the time your cat is 18 years old, they’ll be similar to an 88-year-old person!
The average lifespan of an indoor cat is 16 to 18 years of age, though it’s not uncommon for cats to live past 20. So, your cat will hopefully at least live a life that corresponds to an 80- to 88-year life in humans. At some point, your kitten will likely surpass you in cat years!
