Kittens may have a reputation for being stubborn, but that doesn’t mean kitten training has to be hard. When you’re learning how to train a kitten, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with positive reinforcement. You can use desirable treats, playtime with a special toy and/or affection to reinforce the kitten behaviors you want to see.
Even if you don’t notice it, you’re training your kitten from the first day you bring them home with you by exposing them to different sights, smells and sounds. You’ll want to focus on litter box training, acclimatizing to cat carrier and socialization. when you first bring your kitten home, which is often when they’re between 6 to 8 weeks of age. Make sure you learn about kitten behavior by age to choose good training topics as your kitten grows.
Normal kitten behavior includes inquisitive and rambunctious exploration of their surroundings, which includes chewing on things they shouldn’t, pouncing at their owners or other moving objects, scratching surfaces, kneading and jumping onto hard-to-reach places. Kittens usually adjust well to litter boxes, so accidents are not usually common. Be sure your kitten training uses positive reinforcement methods to encourage normal kitten behavior.
