Tail chasing, loud snorting while playing, funny sleeping positions…every puppy has their quirks! Although some habits are a little icky (think poop-eating), many are extremely adorable. Here are just a few behaviors your pup may have developed in their first 10 months of life.
Wet dog zoomies: After a bath, some dogs are suddenly struck with the zoomies. They’ll run at top speeds through your home, often rubbing their wet bodies on your couches and bed. Even though you may be a little displeased when you sit in a wet spot later, it’s pretty cute in the moment!
The “Let me in” bark: Your dog has been learning how to communicate with you. When they go outside into your yard, chances are you can tell the difference between a bark telling you that someone is walking past and a bark telling you they want to come inside now.
Crawling under certain pieces of furniture: When your puppy was young, they may have learned that you thought it was cute when they crawled under the coffee table. They may be too big now, but that doesn’t mean they don’t still try. Maybe your growing puppy is still trying to stick their head into their favorite puppyhood sleeping place.
The post-poop speed run: Some dogs like to zip around the yard after pooping. Sometimes they even have the same loop that they run every single time. Maybe they really do feel 5 pounds lighter!
The bed-making routine: You make your pet’s bed all nice and neat, just for them to come and scratch at the blanket until it’s a giant lump for them to sleep on. At least they still look comfortable…usually.
We’re sure your puppy has their own dog-isms. All we ask is that you share some photos or videos of your puppy’s funny habits with your VCA care team!
If your puppy’s habits aren’t quite as cute as you’d hope, consult with your VCA care team on how to reduce undesirable behavior. Check out how we determine if a problem is medical or behavioral.
