Our medical director, Dr. Cyanna Howden, brings extensive experience and a lifelong passion for veterinary medicine to VCA Care Animal Hospital. Dr. Howden grew up in the Fall River Valley surrounded by animals and began her career in veterinary medicine as a registered veterinary technician in Redding. After earning her veterinary degree from Western University College of Veterinary Medicine, she returned to the Redding area and served as chief medical officer at Haven Humane, where she gained extensive experience caring for pets and performing surgery. Dr. Howden joined VCA Care Animal Hospital as medical director in 2022 and is passionate about patient care, client relationships and supporting her veterinary team.

Our full diagnostic services include an in-house laboratory capable of performing complete blood cell counts, chemistry panels and testing related to liver, kidney and pancreatic function, glucose and electrolytes. Additional laboratory testing can be submitted to an outside diagnostic laboratory when needed, helping our veterinarians evaluate your pet's health and make informed treatment recommendations.
Preventive care is an important part of keeping pets healthy. Routine wellness examinations allow our veterinarians to establish a baseline for your pet's health and identify potential concerns early. Wellness testing may include blood work, urinalysis, intestinal parasite testing and heartworm testing when appropriate.
