Katelin McConkey, DVM, has been an associate veterinarian with VCA Choptank Animal Hospital since June 2020. Dr. McConkey knew she wanted to be a veterinarian by the time she was 5 years old. Dr. McConkey received her undergraduate degree from St. Mary's College of Maryland and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. McConkey has been working with animals since as long as she can remember. She started by volunteering in wildlife rescues and animal shelters as soon as she was old enough to do so. Dr. McConkey's family moved overseas while she was in high school and she worked as a zookeeper while abroad. Dr. McConkey is comfortable seeing a wide range of species due to all of these experiences. She has experience with Maryland wildlife, birds, reptiles, rodents, even bears! Her main interests in veterinary medicine are surgery (both soft tissue and orthopedic, but especially emergency surgery), ultrasonography, and exotic animal medicine.
After living all over the world and the United States, Dr. McConkey settled back to her home state of Maryland where she lives with her husband, two daughters, sphynx cat, dogs, horses, and chickens. In her spare time, she enjoys driving horses. She helps a local carriage company with commercial events such as weddings and she also has her own miniature horse she competes with. Her goal is to build a team of miniature horses to drive.
"I am proud to be a VCA veterinarian because of the sense of community through the entire VCA network. I always have someone to turn to for help and we all work together to make each other provide the best quality of medicine available. "
