Dr. Virgen's love and compassion for animals started at a very young age by helping her parents feed the wildlife and stray cats in her neighborhood. She and her late father and would take the injured to their local animal shelter and it was then when she was first introduced to the veterinary field!
Dr. Virgen grew up in Alhambra, CA, about 20 minutes away from Downtown Los Angeles. Having never left California, she made the decision to move across the country to attend Syracuse University (Go Orange!) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in political science. She moved back to her home state and obtained her veterinary degree from UC Davis (Go Aggies!).
Her interests include preventative medicine, surgery, and behavior. She enjoys running, reading, and trying new restaurants. Dr. Virgen also loves to travel and road trip with family and friends. Fun fact: She is bilingual in Spanish and English!
