Dr. Lucy Mays attended Purdue University for her undergraduate degree in animal science and earned a masters degree in animal nutrition from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her husband’s career with the US Navy brought her to the Fairfax area where she worked in various fields, eventually owning and operating her own business. After raising her four children, she had the opportunity to return to school to pursue her life-long dream of becoming a veterinarian. She received her DVM degree from the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, completing a year of clinical training at the Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine, then returned to Virginia and joined the staff at VCA Healthy Paws in spring 2016.
Dr. Lucy especially enjoys the opportunity to get to know clients and their pets, to facilitate the human animal bond, and to provide preventative health care recommendations and services that will help pets stay as healthy as possible throughout their lives.
She currently lives with her husband Jim and their four rescue dogs, Phineas, Louie, Teddy, and Maci. She enjoys spending time with grandchildren as well as camping, hiking, and canoeing with her human and canine family.
