Joseph Ianniello

Veterinarian

DVM

Born and raised in Staten Island, New York, Dr. Joseph Ianniello began working in veterinary medicine at the young age of 12-years old, cleaning cages and feeding the patients at a local small animal clinic. From there, Dr. Ianniello went on to become a veterinary nurse for small animal general practices and emergency hospitals throughout New York. He attended Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York, where he received his bachelor's degree in biology.

After that, he went on to pursue his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, where he specialized in Public Health / Population Sciences. While there, he interned at numerous government, non-government, and international organizations, focusing on policy development for animal welfare. After veterinary school, he began working at Banfield Pet Hospital, focusing on surgeries and dental procedures throughout Northern Virginia. He then went on to work for multiple emergency hospitals throughout Washington, DC, before returning to general practice here at VCA.

His interests include preventative medicine, epidemiology, client education, and general surgeries. Outside of work, Dr. Ianniello is an active kickball player for DC's Stonewall Sports and volunteers for multiple LGBTQIA+ philanthropic organizations throughout the DMV.
