Dr. Julie Fithian

Veterinarian (Integrative Medicine)

DVM, CertAqV, CVA

Dr. Julie Fithian is a veterinarian at VCA New Hartford Animal Hospital, where she leads integrative medicine services for pets in New Hartford, NY and the surrounding communities. She specializes in veterinary acupuncture and herbal therapy, supporting pets with complex, chronic, and pain-related conditions, especially when additional support beyond traditional treatment is needed. She collaborates with families and referring veterinarians to develop individualized care plans that improve comfort, mobility, and overall quality of life.

With advanced training in veterinary acupuncture, Dr. Fithian brings a deeper level of expertise to cases that benefit from a more comprehensive, whole-patient approach. She integrates acupuncture with traditional veterinary medicine to support senior pets, orthopedic and neurologic conditions, post-surgical recovery, and long-term pain management.

“I love being able to offer meaningful options for pets who need more support, especially when families are looking for ways to improve comfort and quality of life.”

Dr. Fithian’s approach is rooted in listening, problem-solving, and understanding the full picture of each patient. She takes time to guide families through care decisions with clarity and compassion, ensuring they feel confident and supported throughout their pet’s care journey.

As part of her integrative care services, Dr. Fithian offers dry needling, aqua acupuncture, and electro-acupuncture, along with Chinese herbal consultations when appropriate. These therapies are designed to support the body’s natural healing processes, reduce discomfort, and improve overall wellbeing in a gentle, well-tolerated way.

“Every pet is different. When we take the time to understand the whole patient, we can create care plans that truly make a difference.”

Originally from Long Island, NY, Dr. Fithian earned her veterinary degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2022. She has a strong interest in aquatic medicine and has volunteered with a marine rescue organization, helping care for cold-stunned sea turtles and assisting in large whale response efforts. Her additional professional interests include preventive care, surgery, pain management, and integrative medicine, allowing her to support pets at every stage of life.

Dr. Fithian is proud to be part of a collaborative team that values high medical standards, strong communication, and continuity of care. Through her work in integrative medicine, she is helping expand how the hospital supports patients by offering additional options for comfort, healing, and long-term management.
